How Los Angeles Works
How Los Angeles Works is a 2-hour workshop, which provides International Students, Exchange Visitors and dependents a comprehensive list of the most critical things that they need to know in order to really begin to feel comfortable and get settled in Los Angeles.
The workshop provides answers and guidance about:
• The settings of Los Angeles or Los Angeles, the city
o Fast, fun facts and information that is important to know
o Getting around Los Angeles quickly and efficiently
• First things first:
o Opening a bank account (without bank fees)
o Getting a cell phone (reasonable plans and equipment)
o Using public transportation (how to get information/figure out routes)
o Obtaining a driver’s license (the key to roam the streets and highways)
o Getting a social security number (Important # to get a job, credit, etc)
o Making a list of emergency numbers (vital for personal and family reference)
• Potential next steps:
o Renting an apartment (understanding how to screen neighborhoods, etc)
o Establishing utility accounts for a new apartment (contact #’s/information)
o Buying or renting a car (suggestions and recommendations to get started on researching this type of purchase)
o Insuring cars (options are presented)
• Having fun in Los Angeles!!
