Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Good morning everyone,

Hope you are doing well despite our windy and cold weather.

This morning, we are sharing with you this interesting post from Yelp. It’s all about Pumpkin,

No matter which way you carve it, nothing says fall like the mighty pumpkin. Restos all around town agree as they’re busy reincorporating this most festive of fruit back into the kitchen – and for some, it never left. On the off chance you suffer cucurbitophobia (a fear of pumpkins), we must warn you that this Weekly Yelp is dedicated to the King of ‘Kins, in all of its glorious forms! Click here to read their post.

To learn more about Pumpkin, we also found this great website called Pumpkin Patch. They have everything you need to know about Pumpkin for Halloween.

Fulbright Program Adapts to Obama Administration’s Priorities

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Hello,

Last week, the Chronicle of Higher Education included special coverage on the Fulbright Program. The feature article on the program includes an extensive interview with Alina Romanowski, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Academic Programs at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, highlighting the State Department’s efforts to review the disciplines and world areas of focus “with an eye toward putting President Obama’s stamp on the program.” In an interview with The Chronicle, Alina L. Romanowski, the new deputy assistant secretary for academic programs at the department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, said both Mr. Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have sent clear signals that education exchange is a crucial aspect of the U.S. international agenda. That’s a very great news because this will increase exchanges and mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and other countries.

International Education Critical to U.S. Business and Industry Leaders

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Hi Everyone,

We receive this article from our partner the Institute of International Education.

With the help of the Dilenschneider Group, IIE recently conducted a survey of more than 200 senior-level U.S. and international business leaders to gauge their perceptions of the value of international education to their organizations’ workforce talent. Sixty percent of all respondents reported that the hiring and promotion strategy of their companies acknowledge the importance of a study abroad experience. The survey represents the opinions of CEOs, senior directors, presidents, vice-presidents, and chairs of company boards from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. The new IIE briefing paper analyzes the results of the survey.

Many respondents indicated that the true value of international education lies in the opportunity it provides for students to participate in intensive language programs and develop skills that result from the unique experience of complete immersion in a foreign culture.

Even though this article was written for American students who study outside the United States, we think international students should also read it. The paper will give you a better understanding of  how U.S. business leaders think, and what are some of their concerns when hiring new employees. We really believe this paper will help you enhance your career prospects.

Calculating Your “Real” Grade Point Average (GPA)

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Hi Everyone,

We received this very interesting article from Mark Montgomery who owns Great College Advice.

Everyone knows the importance of a high school student’s grade point average, or GPA. It’s the little number that labels us. It signifies whether we are a geek or slacker, or somewhere in between. The GPA is usually either a point of great pride or great shame. Those students who are proud of their GPA practically have it tattooed on their foreheads, while others skulk about in fear that someone might discover what ignoramuses they truly are. To read the complete article click here.

We believe his great resources and advices will be helpful to you.
